Whirling Stars Above La Silla Observatory

La Silla Observatory is located in the Atacama Desert in Chile at an altitude of 5,000m and has some of the best skies in the world. The ALMA array seen in the image above image the universe in the millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths and is the most powerful array in the world. The array images molecular gas and dust in space as well as picking up on the radiation left over from the Big Bang.
