Lesser Siren | Siren intermedia

You might know them as the two-legged eel, the dwarf siren or the mud eel, the lesser siren is native to the eastern United States and northern Mexico. The siren is nocturnal, hiding itself away in mud and debris while becoming active during the night to feed on aquatic invertebrates such as worms, snails and crustaceans. While common, their numbers are declining due to a decrease in water quality due to pesticides and fertilizer runoff.
